Hundreds of cared-for cars and amazing aircraft parked at the Delaware Coastal Airport for the 16th annual Wings & Wheels fall festival. By noon, traffic to enter the festival was backed up for over a mile on Rt 9.
After parking at the Sussex Academy, we were shuttled a short distance to a large chunk of GED's airplane parking lot. We watched some planes land on Runway 22 and taxi immediately onto the festival lot, where folks could see each rivet and piston. Some of the aircraft looked freshly painted: vibrant greens, brilliant yellows, and perfect blues. Pilots milled about the planes to socialize with other pilots and answer questions.
South of the planes, engine bays front and rear yawned for excited gearheads. Car owners pitched camping chairs in circles, talking about broken turn signals and repair tribulations. I heard one gentleman say, "The problem with the Avanti is..."
My favorite car of the show was an immaculate white 1995 Toyota Supra. It sat close to a hot orange fifth generation Supra. Excellent.
Shortly before we left, we watched a Pivotal BlackFly electric VTOL aircraft take off, fly around the area, and land. Strange-looking, single-passenger aircraft!
